Robert G. “King” Moore, 84, of Coralville, died Monday, March 7, 2016 at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday at noon at Lensing’s Oak Hill in Coralville. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 am until service time at Oak Hill. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or Mercy Hospice.

Robert was born April 3, 1931 in Johnson County, Iowa, the son of Henry “Argie” and Emma (Rhodes) Moore. Raised in Johnson County, Robert attended Iowa City High School and later began his career with the University of Iowa Patient Transportation Garage as a mechanic. Working there for 37 years, he retired in 1992.

Robert married Genevieve “Gen” Denneny Mitchell on October 23, 1983 in Iowa City. He was a member of Johnson County Irish and enjoyed late model stock car racing. His degree in advanced motor mechanics led to building stock cars, dragsters, serving on pit crews and eventually racing stock cars.

Survivors include a brother, Will Moore of Wayland, Iowa, a sister, Marlene Schrock (Roy) of Glendale, Arizona; step-sons, Mark Mitchell of Iowa City, Scott Mitchell of Las Vegas and Tom Mitchell of Iowa City; step-grandchildren, David (Courtney) Mitchell and Kimberly Mitchell; many nieces and nephews; a very special friend, Marge VeDepo and the entire VeDepo family and a daughter in law, Sue Mitchell of Iowa City.

Robert is also survived by a brother-in-law, Charles Owen and his children, Michael (Deb) Owen of West Branch, and their children, Andy and Ann Owen, Tom (Tasha) Owen of Tacoma Washington, Carol (Kevin) Swartzendruber of Kalona, Iowa and their children, Adam and Justin, Patrick (Tina) Owen of Iowa City, and Robert (Lisa) Owen of Iowa City, and their children, Jake, Cody and Drew; Tom and Wilma Denneny's children; Diane (Jerry) Strawn of Solon, Iowa and their children, Kris, Jennifer and Amy, Jim (Diane) Denneny of Iowa City and their children, Eric, David and Michelle, Barbara (Joel) Wells of Iowa City, and their children, Jake and Keegan, Mary(Patrick) O'Leary of Davenport, Iowa and their children, Renaugh and Jonathan, Genelle Denneny of Lawrence, Kansas, Steve Denneny of Iowa City, and his children, Kelsey, Tom, and Shannon, Susie Andrews of Iowa City, and her children, Adrienne and Sam, Colleen Mahoney of Iowa City, and her daughter, Megan and Tim Denneny of Iowa City, and his son, Steve and many great grand nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gen, a sister Shirley Wiggs, brother and sister-in-laws, Thomas and Wilma Denneny, brother-in-law Lawrence Denneny and sister-in-law Ann Owen.

Robert’s family wishes to thank Iowa City Hospice and Mercy Hospice for their care provided to Robert.
