Carolyn was born on August 14, 1953 in Sioux City, IA, the fifth child of Joseph and Margaret (Dunham) Ganoe. She grew up on a farm near Sloan, IA, and was a 1971 graduate of Westwood High School in Sloan. Following high school, Carolyn attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, where she met Jim Kacer. The two were later united in marriage on December 20, 1975, in Ames, Iowa. Carolyn later went on to earn a degree in horticulture from Kirkwood Community College. Carolyn had various jobs in Ft. Dodge, Ames, and Omaha, but she reveled in helping raise their son, Michael, born in 1982. In later years she was a patient and compassionate caretaker for various family members.

Carolyn enjoyed travelling, especially to visit family. With family, Carolyn enjoyed trips to northern Minnesota, Alabama, Cape Cod, the Florida Keys, Hawaii and lately a cruise to the Caribbean. Carolyn was an avid gardener, with a specialty in herbs. She also enjoyed camping, hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing.

Carolyn was an animal lover, adopting several dogs and cats from shelters. Her latest endeavors involved advocating for the shutdown of Iowa's puppy mills.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband Jim of Washington, IA; their son Michael (Wondan Hong) Kacer of Iowa City, IA; two sisters: Marjorie Keating of Sloan, IA, and Dorothy (Ernest) Mehler of Basel, Switzerland; a brother Jim (Terry) Ganoe of New Market, AL; and nieces and nephews: Christopher (Julia) Ganoe, Michelle Ganoe, Sarah (Daniel Truniger) Mehler, and Rebecca (Bernd Ott Seitz) Mehler; two great nieces, Jerilyn and Hannah; three great nephews, Jasper, Daniel and Samuel.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Billy, a brother-in-law, Robert Keating, and her best friend, Reverend Joanne “Tee Hee” Hanners.

Carolyn's unconditional love for her family, friends, and pets will live on forever. She will be dearly missed.
