Andrew Joseph Armbruster, 69, of Iowa City, IA passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 16, 2015. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, August 19 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City with Father Steven Witt and Father Mark Osterhaus officiating. The family will greet friends from 1:30 pm until service time.

Andrew was born on August 13, 1946 in Iowa City, the son of Francis and Eileen (Strabala) Armbruster. He grew up in the Riverside area and graduated from Highland High School in 1964. From 1964-1967, Andrew honorably served in The United States Navy. Following his military service, he returned to Iowa. On August 23, 1980, Andrew married Sandra Schwickerath in North Washington, IA.

Andrew was a passionate bicyclist, liked to read, and enjoyed all of the music venues in Iowa City, especially Jazz. He was an outdoor enthusiast and cared for the environment. Andrew loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife Sandra of Iowa City, daughter Gina of Chicago, IL, son Nicholas of Richton Park, IL, grandchildren Alexis and Nicholas, mother Eileen of Iowa City, two sisters: Jane Armbruster (Malcolm) of Oakland, CA and Catherine (Warren) Grout of Forrest, VA; two brothers: Richard of Austin, TX and Timothy of Iowa City; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunt, uncles and cousins.

Andrew was preceded in death by his father, niece Kara Grout, father and mother-in-law Reynold and Corinne Schwickerath, and brother-in-law Daniel Schwickerath.
