William N. Bogs, 76, of 21 Amber Lane in Iowa City, died Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at Genesis East in Davenport, Iowa following a short illness.

Services will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Friends may call Thursday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Military graveside rites will be provided by the Coralville American Legion, Walter Johnson Post #721 and assisted by other local military organizations. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the William Bogs Memorial Fund.

Bill was born March 27, 1927 in Iowa City, the son of Paul & Kate (Klumforth) Bogs. A lifelong Iowa City resident, Bill attended schools in Iowa City. He married Donna Jean Hedges on February 14, 1948 in Rock Island, Illinois. He served in the Merchant Marines and the US Army during World War II with the military police.

Bill worked as a meat cutter for Gay’s Locker Plant in Iowa City and then as a delivery / route man for Borden’s Dairy in Iowa City. Bill then worked for the City of Iowa City in pollution Control for more than 30 years, retiring in 1989.

He is survived by his wife Donna of Iowa City, five children, Bob Bogs & his wife Annie of North Liberty, Iowa, Donna Bogs of Iowa City, David Bogs of Cedar Rapids, Patty & her husband Jeff Maxfield of Davenport and Wendy Chase of Iowa City; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Kathy Bartachek and a son William Bogs Jr.; brothers Paul, Albert and Robert; sisters Marcella, Henrietta, Dorothy and Gerri;
one grandson Christopher and two granddaughters, Amy and Heather.
