Vincent H. Wetrich, 88, of 49 Arbor Hill Circle died peacefully Monday, February 2, 2004 at Mercy Hospital following a brief illness.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, February 6, 2004 at 10AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Rev. Rudolph Berndt officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 4-7PM, where a Parish Vigil Service will be held at 6:30PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the City High Athletic Program.

Vincent was born January 20, 1916 in North English, Iowa, the son of John Henry and Catherine Ryan Wetrich. He graduated from St. Patrick’s High School and attended the University of Iowa. Vincent married Dorothy Brant on April 30, 1938 at St. Mary’s Church in Iowa City. They had celebrated 65 years of marriage.

For 38 years he was employed by City Electric Supply, retiring in 1996. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Quarterback Club and a past member of the Elk’s Lodge.

He was an avid Hawkeye fan and was an enthusiastic supporter for the Iowa City High Little Hawks athletic programs. Vincent was a loving, kind and gentle man who enjoyed family get togethers, especially at the holiday season. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Vincent is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two daughters, Carolyn Wetrich of Blue Springs, Missouri and her children, Lori, Lisa, Chris and Wendy and Nancy Jane Brown and her husband, Larry of Iowa City and their children Greg, Leslie and Amy; seventeen great grandchildren and two expectant great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Rick and his granddaughter Jennifer.
