James D. Oertel, 39 of Iowa City, Iowa died suddenly Friday, January 23, 2004.

A memorial service will be held 3:00p.m. Thursday, January 29, 2004 at Lensing Funeral Service- 605 Kirkwood Ave, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to The Travis and Kelsey Oertel Education Fund.

James was born September 27, 1964 in Davenport, Iowa the son of John and Mary (Vought) Oertel. He worked as a manager in the restaurant industry and he was currently employed at Okoboji Grill in Iowa City. His children Travis and Kelsey were the love of his life. He enjoyed playing golf with his friends.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Oertel of Davenport, Iowa, his father, John Oertel, Sr and his wife Linda of Geneseo, Illinois; by his children, Travis and Kelsey Oertel of Davenport, Iowa; one brother, John Oertel, Jr and his fiancé Penny Phillips of Davenport, Iowa; one sister, Joanne Knapper and her husband Jerry of Visalia, California; and his fiancé Lori Haggerty.
