Bernice M. Kastner, 88 of 1799 5th Street, Coralville, Iowa died December 25, 2003 at Mercy Hospital after a brief illness.

A memorial Mass will be held at a later date in her home town, Garrison, North Dakota.

Bernice was born August 8, 1915 the daughter of Joseph and Effie (Clark) Retterath. She graduated from high school in Douglas North Dakota. She married Antone J. Kastner on June 18, 1937 in Douglas, North Dakota. She worked for many years as a custodian for the University of Iowa.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City, Iowa. She enjoyed her grandchildren and sewing.

She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Brenneman of Oxford, Iowa; her grandchildren, Terry Brenneman, Chris Brenneman, Jamey Brenneman and Michael Brenneman, Janene Duffy and Janette Duffy, great grandchildren, Breyanne Duffy and Dalton Duffy, Jacob, Lucas, Josh Brenneman, Ashley Brenneman, Katelynn Brenneman, James Stewart, Mayghen and Shannon Brenneman. She is also survived by one great great grandchild. Her three sisters, Fern Wretling of Garrison, North Dakota, Ivas Carlson of Garrison, North Dakota, Helen Dittus of Minot, North Dakota, one brother, Robert Retterath of Garrison, North Dakota.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband , one daughter, Lois (Peachy) Duffy, two great granddaughters, Amanda and Samantha Brenneman and by two sisters, Inez and Marion.
