Charles "Bud" Curran 1913-2003

Charles “Bud” Curran, 90 of 4375 Sioux Avenue died Friday, December 19, 2003 at Atrium Village in Hills, Iowa after a long illness.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Tuesday at Lensing Funeral Service-605 Kirkwood Ave. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00pm at Lensing’s.
Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Iowa City hospice or Hills Town and Country Club.

Charles was born July 30, 1913 the son of William Charles and Ethel H. (Crippen) Curran. On March 21, 1938 he was united in marriage to Florence F. Lippincott. He worked as a serviceman for Iowa/Illinois Gas and Electric. He and his wife owned and operated People’s Grocery until 1955. He then farmed and was one of the first mechanics hired at Owens Brush Co. which is now Oral B.

Bud had a great love for outdoors, and he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He shared his love and knowledge of hunting and fishing with many people. He was a member of Hills Town and Country where he helped run bingo. A twenty five year member of the Eagles and past member of the Moose lodge.

He is survived by his children, Jean Manasmith and her husband Larry of Iowa City and their children; Mikki Webb and her husband Ricky, Jeff Manasmith, Stacey Gates and her husband Gary; His daughter, Vicki Curran of Iowa City and her children Danielle Fulton and Darcie Wolf and her husband George; His son, William Curran and his wife Emily of Iowa City and their children, Kristee Malmberg and her husband Jim, Cathy Putney and her husband Kevin and Cindy Haught and her husband Dennis. By fifteen great grandchildren: Sara Hoyle, Natalie Webb, Kyle, Sean and Madison Gates, Melisa and Michael Malmberg, Curran and Maclaine Putney, Caitlin and Collin Haught, Alex Huberty, Jacob, Issac and Ursula Wolf. Bud is also survived by his two sisters, Frances Brown of Langley, Washington and Emma Dingman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Florence, three brothers and one sister.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction and Atrium Village in Hills and Iowa City Hospice,especially his Home Health Nurse Barb Chaney for all of the care and compassion they showed to Bud during his extended illness.
