Clara Virginia Byers 1917-2003

Clara “Virginia” Byers, 86, formerly of 616 10th Avenue in Coralville, died Thursday, December 18, 2003 at Iowa City Rehabilitation & Health Care Center following complications of pneumonia.

Funeral Services will be held Monday at 10:30 AM at Coralville United Methodist Church with Reverend Doug Williams officiating. Friends may call Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Lensing’s Oak Hill in Coralville. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to The Coralville United Methodist Church or Coralville Noon Optimists.

Virginia was born November 9, 1917 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of John W. & Anah D. (Bonesteel) Austin. She was raised in the Cedar Rapids / Marion area and graduated from Marion High School. Virginia married Edward Byers on May 27, 1941 in Cedar Rapids. The couple moved to the Coralville area in 1956. Virginia was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband Edward of Coralville; a son Edward J. Byers III & his wife Sue of Coralville; a sister Esther Thompson & her husband Harold of Cedar Rapids; a grandson Troy Byers & his wife Roma; a granddaughter Kimberly Rosenberg & her husband Shane of Amana; two great grandsons and one great granddaughter

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents.
