He was born December 3, 1933; son of Henry Joseph Klosterman and Gustava Bea Miles of Sioux City, IA. At 17, Henry joined the Navy during the Korean War. His active duty on the U.S.S. Juneau began May 20th, 1951. By the time his service ended on September 29, 1954, he had traveled extensively, and was particularly fond of time spent in Italy and Japan. In 1957, after time spent laboring with bricklayers in Iowa City at his father’s encouragement, and a resulting apprenticeship in Ames, Henry earned a Journeyman’s card as a member of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local 3 Iowa. Henry became President/Secretary-Treasurer of BAC Local 3 Iowa in March 1995, and held that position until 1998. In 2007, he was given special recognition for his fifty years of membership. He maintained his membership for the rest of his life. In 1973, he was elected a Freemason, and eventually attained the status of 32nd-degree Mason. After retirement, Henry was particularly proud of months spent volunteering in South Dakota on a remote Lakota reservation, where he constructed a recreation center and storm shelter.

Henry enjoyed the artistry of his work, travel, collecting and riding motorcycles, socializing in downtown Iowa City, and was especially proud to have passed along to his grandson, Andy, his trade of masonry.

Henry’s family includes his daughter Star (Hussein) Lynn Safi of Long Beach; son Henry “Jay” (Julie) Klosterman of Scottsdale; daughter Sadie (Brian) Marie Landwehr of Des Moines; sister Beverly Nelson of Bloomington, MN; brother Miles (Deanna) V. Klosterman of Sioux City, IA; friend and former spouse Cindy Lou Dreher of Iowa City; as well as seven grandchildren.

Henry is preceded in death by daughters Robin Ann Nystrom of Phoenix and Wendy Jane Peck of Iowa City.

Henry will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and dogs Molly and Gloria.
