Calyonda D. Heller, 38, of North Liberty, died Sunday, September 23, 2012.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Flint, MI with burial to follow at the Lovedale Cemetery in Burton. A memorial fund has been established in her memory. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com.
Calyonda DaLawn Sawyer was born December 26, 1973, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Calvin and Hayat (Abdullah) Sawyer. Growing up in Flint she graduated from Northwestern High School in 1992 and came to the University of Iowa where she received her degree in Leisure Science. She became a member and was baptized at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Flint in 1982. She was united in marriage to Rovon P. Heller on August 13, 1993 in Flint. The couple has resided in Iowa City area for nearly 20 years now. She was employed by Walmart as a Vision Center Associate. Cal loved life, her laugh and smile were contagious and she always had something good to say. She enjoyed dancing, going to the casino, but most of all, whether it was at home, with her friends, or at work, she simply loved helping others out.
Leaving behind to cherish her memories are Cal’s husband, Rovon Heller; Daughter, Cianca Heller; Mother, Hayat Collins; Sisters, Tonya (Donneill) Chin-Kee-Fatt, Satara Sawyer, Adellika Abdullah, Sade Collins, SaCre Collins, all of Flint, MI; Brothers, Ahmad Abdullah, David Sawyer, Adell Bailey, also of Flint; Grandparents, Mr. Henderson and Mrs. Christine Cuba; Brother-in-laws, Stephon and Indres Heller; Sister-in-law, Germaine Heller; Aunts, Patricia DeLeon and Cynthinia Marks; Uncles, Robert, Terry, Leon, Fred, Lindsay, Maurice, Clark Kent, all of Flint; Godchild, Haley; special friends, Lauire, LaShonda, Anna, Angie and Royceanna; and 9 nieces, 7 nephews and a host of cousins.
Calyonda Heller was preceded in death by her father, Calvin Sawyer; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Prince, Willie Mae Blackmon, Uncle Johnny Cuba and mother-in-law, Bernadine Heller.
