Betty Mae Potter was born January 12, 1924, in Newhall, Iowa the daughter of Lester and Emily (Sellers) Potter. She was raised in the Copi and Tiffin areas where she attended Tiffin schools, a point she was most proud of! She married Cletus “Dave” Funk on March 11, 1944 in El Paso, TX. Betty had worked for Keith Wilson Hatchery, Kelly Cleaners, and for over 25 years was employed by Proctor & Gamble retiring in 1984. She had been a member of the Moose, was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and for many, they knew Betty and Dave for their passion of square dancing, having been members of the Oceanwaves for many years. This was by far one of their favorite pastimes, especially when they were able to dance a poka! In years past, Betty’s gardens were a point of much happiness; she enjoyed just being outside for any reason, tending to their horses or simply sitting by a camp fire. Another one of Betty’s passions was for the care of animals, in fact she and Dave purchased the first Kevlar Vest for the Dogs of the Iowa City K-9 unit. She would support in many different ways anything to do with animal rights, stronger animal rights advocate would be hard to find!

Her family includes her son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Kathy Funk of Riverside; grandchildren, Kari Schabilion and her husband, Abe of Riverside, David Funk and Megan Helle of Pocahontas, IA; sister, Aleda Allison of Davenport, brothers, Dean Potter and his wife, Edith of Davenport and Dale Potter and his wife, Linda of Blue Grass, IA; and numerous nieces, and nephews; and of course her feline companion, Kitty!

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dave; son, Terry; ˝ brother, Raymond Smith and brother, Ronald Potter; and sister, Gwendolyn Garlock.

Betty’s family would like to thank all at Iowa City Hospice and Hills Atrium Village for their extraordinary care of our mother and grandma, we will always cherish all that you have done!
