Cedar Rapids GazetteNoel E. Siems, 91, of Middle Amana, formerly of Iowa City, died Monday, May 28, 2012.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 1, 2012, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Burial with military honors will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Thursday at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Memorial contributions may be made in Noel’s memory to the Iowa City American Legion or Moving Forward (at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church). Noel Eugene Siems was born December 25, 1920, in rural Iowa County; son of Fred and Elizabeth (Hofmaster) Siems. Noel served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII as a truck driver in the South Pacific. Upon his return he met and later married Norma Martinson on November 10, 1945. After his service Noel began farming for a number of years and later drove a gasoline transport truck; during which time he and Norma began their family. In June of 1962, he began his excavating company, Iowa City Excavating and Grading Inc.; which will be celebrating their 50th year of business in just days. Several years after Norma’s death, Noel met Irene Mumm and the two were married October 23, 1997, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. For the last several years, they have resided in Middle Amana.
Noel and Irene are members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids; he was a charter member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City as well as a member of the Iowa City American Legion.
His family includes his wife, Irene; his children, Robert (Jeanne) Siems of North Liberty, Sandra Beltz of Solon, Wayne (Diane) Siems of Oxford, Karen (“Skip”) Fults of Coralville, Kathy Siems of Coralville; step-children, Barbara (Larry) Peden of Cedar Rapids, Wayne (Gail) Boesenberg of Cedar Rapids and Gary (Jane) Boesenberg of Solon; grandchildren, James and Shannon Siems, Chris Spengler, Gary Beltz, Ann Mason, James C. Siems, Lisa Johnson, Angie Gorvin, Clint Fults and Kari Siems; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Rachel Gerard of Marengo and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Noel was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Norma in May of 1987; parents; step-daughter, Bernice Olson; son-in-law, Dave Beltz; brother, Carroll Siems and sisters, Mildred Siems and Wilma Landyt.
