RETTENMAYER SUCCUMBS HERE

Was Pioneer Resident; In Meat Business 40 Years

John J. Rettenmayer, 70, died at a local hospital at 6:30 o'clock Monday morning after an illness of several months.

He was born in Iowa City November 24, 1872, and had been in the meat business here for over 40 years. Rettenmayer was the son of Mr. and Mrs. F.X. Rettenmayer, pioneer residents of Iowa City.

Survivors are his widow and one daughter, Sadie of Lemon Grove, Calif., a sister, Mrs. Rosa Siepmann of Milwaukee; two brothers, Joseph A. of Sapulpa, Okla., and Charles H. of Iowa City. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The remains will be at Beckman's until time of the service Thursday at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's church.

Burial will be at St. Joseph cemetery with the McGovern funeral home in charge of the service. Rosary will be recited at the funeral home at 7 o'clock Wednesday evening.
