John J. Hager. North Liberty, Dies: Rites Set

NORTH LIBERTY ---- John J. Hager, 87, a resident of North Liberty for the past 30 years, died at 7 p.m. Monday at an Iowa City nursing home,

Born near Lanark, Ill., November 9, 1870, he was a son of Hiram and Elizabeth Horner Hager. He moved with his parents to Belle Rive, Ill, when he was 12, being married there in 1899 to the former Alice Wall.

The couple resided on a farm near Belle Rive, until moving to North Liberty in 1927.

Mr. Hager was a member of the North Liberty Methodist church.

Survivors include his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Gertie) Hager, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Mrs. Ora (Nannie) Sexton of Iowa City, and three sons, Clarence of Nashville, Tenn., Harry of Dubuque, and Berdel, of Cedar Rapids, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren, also surviving is a brother, Alvin Hager, of Poplar Bluff.

He was preceded in death by two daughters and one son as well as three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Oathout funeral chapel, Iowa City, with the Rev. Robert R. Sanks, of the First Methodist church, Iowa City, officiating, burial will be in North Liberty cemetery.
