Kathryn Polonge Gabrielson, 94, formerly of 400 S. Dubuque Street Iowa City, died Thursday, October 2, 2003 at Greenwood Manor after a brief illness.

Memorial services will be held at a later date at Trinity Episcopal Church. Her body has been donated to the University of Iowa. Burial will be in Green Ridge Cemetery in Kenosha, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity Episcopal Church or Iowa City Hospice. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City is in charge of arrangements.

Kathryn was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin to John and Caroline Bartow
Polonge on November 25, 1908. She married Leslie Howard Gabrielson on July 27, 1929 in Kenosha. Kathryn and Leslie lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for many years following their marriage and after her husband’s death, Kathryn moved to Hammond, Indiana to be near her daughter Sandra. In 1998, she moved to Iowa City.

Kathryn had a love for travel and during her lifetime she visited many countries, learning about different cultures and making many friends. She also enjoyed creating things of beauty through her arts, crafts and writing. She will forever be remembered for her sincere love of God, her generous nature, dazzling smile and personality.

Kathryn is survived by her daughter Debra Lee of Iowa City; four grandchildren, Derek Duhon, Donn Duhon, Sharyl Hivko and Kimberly Watson; five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leslie, her daughter Sandra and a sister Ann.
