Gerald 'Jerry' M. Stratton age 58 of Oxford died on Sunday, October 5, 2003 following complications from a stroke at the University of Iowa Hospital’s and Clinic’s in Iowa City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2003 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford. Burial with military rites will be at the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Oxford. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Oxford. Memorials may be given to the Jerry Stratton Memorial Fund. Gerald Michael Stratton was born on April 13, 1945 in Iowa City the son of John M. “Jack” and Ellen “Nellie” T (Organ) Stratton. He graduated from Oxford High School and served his country during the Vietnam War as a mechanic with the United States Air Force. On November 18, 1965 he married Charlene Fitkin at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford. Jerry worked as an electrician for Robert Cook Electric in Oxford along with several other companies before starting his own business which he ran for the last ten years. He enjoyed cards, including Black Jack, Poker and Euchre; he had a wonderful sense of humor and loved his family. He was happiest when his family was around, especially his granddaughters. Jerry was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford, the Oxford Fire Department and the Oxford American Legion # 537.
His family includes one daughter: Michelle Klostermann of Lisbon, Iowa, two sons: Michael Stratton and Mark and wife Debra Stratton of Tucson, Arizona, and their mother Charlene Stratton of Iowa City, granddaughters: Jordan, Megan, Nicole and Stephanie, one brother: Kevin Stratton of Oxford, one sister: Jayne and husband George Evans of Ottumwa, Iowa, nine nieces and nephews, one great niece, several uncles, aunts, cousins and many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Bill. The Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Jerry’s family and his services.
