Marguerite Eakes, 79, of 807 Hughes Street in Coralville, died Monday, September 15, 2003 at University of Iowa Healthcare in Iowa City following complications of cancer.

Marguerite chose to be cremated. There will be no visitation. A memorial will be held Saturday at 10:30 am at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial of cremains will be in Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City.
Memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.

Marguerite was born December 28, 1923 in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Everett & Margaret Teller Klumforth. Marguerite was a homemaker and devoted her time to raising her children and caring for her family. She was a lifelong resident of the Iowa City / Coralville area. She married Harley Eakes on August 5, 1944 in Iowa City.

She is survived by her children, sons, Dallas Eakes, Wade Eakes & his wife Carolyn and Elvis Eakes, all of North Liberty and daughter Harlene Hall & her husband David of Des Moines; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; four sisters, Priscilla Eakes of Coralville, Frances Smith of Brookfield, Florida, Patricia Holderness of Cedar Rapids and Ione Allen & her husband Bob of Bolivar, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.

Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harley, a daughter Dawn Eakes and a sister, Shirley.
