Nona Lewis Halblom, 95, formerly of Autumn Park Apartments and a resident of Iowa City Rehabilitation and Care Center died Monday, September 15, 2003 at the care center following a lengthy illness.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at 10:00AM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City with Rev. Royce Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00pm Tuesday at the funeral home. A reception will follow the committal. Memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice or American Cancer Society.
Nona Pearl was born January 5, 1908, in Pleasant Valley, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph H. and Ida J. Kimes Lewis. She married Raymond Hedges in 1932. He died in 1947. On January 25, 1953, she was united in marriage to Lewis Halblom in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. He died in 1982.
Nona had worked at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in central sterilizing, until retiring in 1973. She retired in 1973. She had been a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She attended Tabernacle Baptist Church services while residing at the care center.
Nona enjoyed flowers and fishing.
She is survived by one son, Donald Peterson of Thomasville, Georgia; one step son, Larry Halblom and his wife Shirley of Salem, Oregon; one granddaughter, Gloria McCabe and her husband Mike; two great grandchildren, Larry McCabe and his wife Lori, and Earl McCabe; two great great grandchildren, Eli and Julianna McCabe, all of Thomasville, Georgia. She is also survived by nieces and nephews including Francis and Emily Lewis of Iowa City, Iowa.
