Martin J. O'Connor, 83,of Mequon, Wis., formerly of Iowa City, died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, in his home. A memorial service was held July 20 at St. James Catholic Church, Mequon.

Mr. O'Conner was born in Iowa City to Edward L. and Florence O'Connor. He lived in Iowa City and Des Moines until his graduation from the University of Iowa in 1942. While at the university, he was a member of Beta Theta Pi and the Men's Senior Honor Society.

He served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II. Subsequently, he resided in the Milwaukee, Wis., area.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy, three sons, David (Beth) , Steve (Whitney) and Tom (Maura); two daughters, Diane (Dick Sachs) O'Connor, and Susie (Steve) Auchter; 13 grandchildren, Michael, Kearney (Rick), Patrick, Kathryn, Jane and Max (Mary) Sachs, Matthew and Henry O'Connor, Phil, Katie and Quinn O'Connor and Will and Alex Auchter; a sister, Marian (Kenneth) Makoutz; and other relatives and friends.

Preceding Mr. O'Conner in death were his parents; an elder brother, Edward; and a sister, Kathleen (Wayne) Miller of Tipton.
He had many friends in the Iowa City area and was an outstanding member of the UI Class of 1942.
