OXFORD - Edward Frees, 99, died this morning at an Iowa City care center following a short illness.

Funeral mass is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Church in Oxford, with burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Oxford. Friends may call beginning Thursday morning at the Oxford Chapel, where the rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Thursday.

Mr. Frees was born to John and Barbara Struble Frees March 15, 1872, south of Oxford. He was a lifelong Oxford resident and worked there as a plumber. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Oxford and the town's volunteer fire department.

Survivors include six sons, Marvin and Leonard of Oxford; Francis and Edward of Iowa City; John of Tacoma, Wash., and Robert of Solon; three daughters, Mrs. Alice Hines of Vacaville, Calif.; Mrs. Harry (Edna) Laschke of Iowa City, and Mrs. Don (Ethel) Farrens of Clarinda; 30 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren, and give great-great-grandchildren.

His wife died in September of 1971. A daughter died earlier.
