Lynn A. “Trimmer” Detweiler, 50, of 51 Gleason Drive, Iowa City, died Sunday morning, August 3, 2003, near Salem, South Dakota, from injuries received in a motorcycle accident while on his way to a Harley Rally at Sturgis.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 7, 2003, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 405 N. Riverside Drive, Iowa City, with the Reverend Walter Helms, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Iowa City. Friends may call from 1:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City, where there will be a parish rosary recited at 6:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Lynn Detweiler was born November 25, 1952 in Fort Clayton, Panama, the son of Dwain and Ruth (Marine) Detweiler. He was a lifelong resident of Johnson County. He was united in marriage to Theresa Kopatich. Lynn had owned and operated his own construction company for over twenty years. In the last two years he had retired and he and his wife opened Petland in Iowa City. Lynn leaves behind many loved ones.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa Kopatich, his son; Troy Detweiler of Iowa City, two step-sons; Ryan Detweiler of Iowa City, Jeremy Withrow and his wife, Malina of Coralville, his step-daughter, Dawn Walters and her husband, J.D. of Kalona, five grandsons, his parents, Ruth and Dwain Detweiler of Brownsville, Texas, two sisters, Linda Bang of Coralville, Cheryl Detweiler of Bluegrass, Iowa, one brother, Carroll Detweiler, as well as, many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. “We will miss you Trimmer”.
