Iowa City - 319-338-8171Lester D. Gingerich, 81, of 1402 Spruce Street, Iowa City, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty, Iowa, after a long illness.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am Friday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service-605 Kirkwood Ave, Iowa City. Visitation will be on Thursday from 3:00 to 8:00 pm at Lensing’s. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.Lester was born December 31, 1921, the son of David F. and Nettie Mae(Zager) Gingerich in Sharon Center, Iowa. He served in the United States Army during World War II. On June 27, 1950 he was united in marriage to Darlene Gegenheimer. He worked for thirty-six years as a produce manager, twenty-seven of those years were at Eagle’s Food Store.
He is survived by his wife Darlene of Iowa City; one daughter, Rebecca Lynn Kober and her husband Leland of West Liberty, Iowa, one son, Todd Gingerich and his wife Kelly of Iowa City, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jessica and Courtney Kober, Koren Shult, Bradley and Emma Gingerich; four great grandchildren, Kohlton Kober, Staci and Jonathyn Shult, and Austyn Crees; one sister, Irene Duwa and her husband Melvin of Lost Nation, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Vera Gingerich of Iowa City, Iowa, and Evelyn Gegenheimer of Oxford; and also by brother-in-law & sister-in-law, George and Maxine Gegenheimer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
His parents, two brothers, Delbert and Olin, and one sister, Alice Zook, precede him in death.
