Nick Estle, 80, of Riverside, Iowa, died Friday, July 25, 2003 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a short illness.

Nick chose to be cremated. The family will greet friends Monday from 5:30 –7:00 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. A parish rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside with Reverend Rich Adams officiating. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to St. Mary’s Church in Riverside or a charity of choice. The family will host a luncheon following the Mass in St. Mary’s Parish Hall.

Nick was born June 28, 1923 in Ledyard, Iowa, the son of T.R. & Mary (Pfander) Estle. He attended schools in Ledyard and was united in marriage to Kate Huss on October 26, 1946, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Nick farmed and was a pork producer his entire life.

He served in the United States Army in the South Pacific during WWII, was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside and a past member of St. Michael’s Church in Holbrook and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. He was very active in Johnson County as a 4-H Leader. He was a member of the Iowa City Polo Club since the late 1960’s and was a former member of Johnson County Pork Producers.

He is survived by his wife Kate of Riverside; 3 daughters, Mary Estle-Smith & her husband Dean of Iowa City, Julie Luchman & her husband Clark of Iowa City and Louise “Charlie” Estle & her husband Mick Langguth of Tiffin; six grandchildren; five sisters, Mabel Mitchell & Edna Winter, both of Lakota, Iowa, Jeanne McCoy of Spirit Lake, Velda Logemann of Fairmont, Minnesota and Doris Kliendl of Elmore, Minnesota and many nieces & nephews.

Nick was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Pearl, Ruth & Norma and three brothers, Dale, John and Lee.
