Aileen R. Kron, 87, formerly of Riverside, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 11, 2011 at Crestview Nursing & Rehab Center in West Branch. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3 pm on Monday, February 14 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside with Father Rich Adam officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 2 pm until service time. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside or Crestview Nursing & Rehab Center. Lensing Funeral Service is handling the arrangements.
Aileen was born on the family farm in rural Riverside, IA on November 2, 1923, the daughter of Reno and Rose (Heitzman) Kron. For many years, Aileen worked not only on the family farm but also as a cashier at the Iowa Memorial Union and it wasn’t until the late 1960’s when she moved permanently to Iowa City.
Aileen was a wonderful lady who had many interests. She loved to travel with her family and friends, enjoyed playing cards with many different card groups, liked to sew, knit and make jewelry, or anything that she could give away as a gift, and thoroughly enjoyed bowling and participating in various bowling leagues. Aileen also was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and was a lifelong season ticket holder for Iowa Men’s Basketball and Football. She was also a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside, and most recently attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews: Rose Rogers of North Liberty, Doris (Bill) Durand of Sunnyvale, CA, Linda Klein of Iowa City, Harry (Marlene) Frantz of Iowa City, Wayne (Patty) Frantz of Iowa City, Don (Jane) Frantz of Coralville, Ron (Linda) Kron of Iowa City, Tom (Carla) Kron of Sandy Hook, CT, Kathy Lilli of Iowa City, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Alberta Frantz, a brother Richard Kron and a nephew Richard Frantz.
Aileen was truly loved by many family and friends and will be greatly missed. The family would like to offer their sincere appreciation to the staff at Crestview Nursing and Rehab Center for the compassionate care they provided to Aileen during her final years.
