Floyd G. Richards, 81, of North Liberty and father of Carol Raymer of Coralville, died Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Lensing’s Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Road in Coralville. Private services will be held, with burial in Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty.

Floyd was born October 13, 1929 in Greenville, Ohio, the son of Russell and Ethel (Brinley) Richards. He was united in marriage to Jean Wachtler in Omaha, Nebraska May 21,1955. Floyd served in the U.S. Air Force Strategic Command in Omaha during the Korean War.

He worked as a design and manufacturing engineer until his retirement. The couple moved to North Liberty in 2005.

Floyd was an avid model airplane builder since childhood. He also enjoyed sailing his radio control sailboat with friends.

Floyd is survived by his wife Jean Richards; son Michael (Laurie) Richards of Omaha and daughter Carol (Tim) Raymer of Coralville; seven grandchildren, Melissa (Zachary) Keller, Abby Raymer, Melanie Raymer, Andrew Raymer, Leah Richards, Grant Richards and Bryan Perkins; two great-grandchildren, Isaiah Keller and Scarlett Keller.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Rolland and a sister Velma Crawford.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice
