IOWA CITY

Viola C. Lons, 96, of 3500 Lower West Branch Road, formerly of 409 River Street, Iowa City, died Sunday morning at her home in Bickford Cottage.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, May 24, 2003 at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Friends may gather at 10:30 am Saturday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service 605 Kirkwood Ave. Iowa City. Memorials may be made to the Viola C. Lons Memorial Fund.

Viola Catherine Lons was born October 3, 1906 in Clarinda, Iowa, the daughter of Charles Alva and Wilma (Lyman) Loghry. She grew up and was educated in Clarinda, graduating from Clarinda High School. She then attended Irish’s Business College and the University of Iowa. She was united in marriage to James Lons on September 15, 1924. The couple made their home in Iowa City where she owned and operated the Carousel Restaurant in Coralville with her brother, Ermal Loghry. She was also the co-owner of Princess Café, Iowa City.

She was a member of the Pilgrim Chapter Daughters of American Revolution where she served as Chapter Regent, State Vice Regent and State Regent, she was a member of the Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America, Daughters of American Colonists, Colonial Dames XVII Century, National Society of Magna Carta Dames, Huguenot Society of Pennsylvania., Jessamine Chapter- Order of the Eastern Star-fifty year member, Bethlehem Shrine #8, white shrine of Jerusalem, Past Worthy High Priestess-fifty year member, of the Eucharist Temple-Daughters of the Nile and she was a member and past president of the Old Capitol American Business Womens Association.

Viola is survived by her sister-in-law, Margaret Loghry of Iowa City, a local niece, Kristin Beatty and her husband Cary of North Liberty, also several other nieces in Idaho.

Her husband James who died in 1957, four brothers; Ermal Loghry, Lyman, Burdett and Ralph Myers, one sister, Helen Johnson, preceded her in death
