Howard C. Gosnell, 78, of 1825 Lower Muscatine Road in Iowa City, died suddenly Sunday, May 4, 2003 in his home of natural causes.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 8, 2003 at 10:00 am at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastors Timothy Zimmermann & Robert Gebel officiating. Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City, with military graveside rites provided by the Solon American Legion. Memorials may be directed to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or a charity of one’s choice.

Howard was born December 14, 1924 in Frytown, Iowa, the son of Mearlin & Ruth (Carter) Gosnell.
He graduated from Center High School, near Frytown, in 1943. He married Ruth L. Wardenburg on June 20, 1948 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in York Township, near Williamsburg. Howard drove a tanker truck for Standard Oil during the construction of Interstate 80 and then in 1967, worked as a freight receiver for Hawkeye Food Systems in Coralville until his retirement in 1990.

Howard was a charter member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City and the Solon American Legion. He enjoyed playing cards, pitching horseshoes, fishing and mushroom hunting.

Howard is survived by his wife Ruth, three sons, Dale & his wife Sue of Conroy, Iowa, Dennis & his wife Kathy of Solon and Steven of Atalissa; one sister, Mildred Flickinger of Cedar Rapids and one brother, Cleese Gosnell & his wife Helen of Sun City, Arizona; five grandchildren, Ann, Greg, Tumara, Tyson & Amanda; 3 great-grandchildren, Coltin, Tristin & Dakota and several nieces & nephews.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents.
