Martin J. Olivarez, 53, of 1260 Meadowview Drive died Saturday, May 3, 2003 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Iowa City following a lengthy illness.

Military Graveside Services will be held Monday, May 12, 2003 at 10AM at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. A memorial fund had been established. Cards and memorials may be sent to Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City, Iowa 52244.

Mr. Olivarez was born April 9, 1950 in Charleston, South Carolina, the son of Martin and Ernestine Maynard Olivarez.

Martin had served in the United State Marines during Vietnam and received the Combat Action Ribbon. He had also served in the Colorado National Guard. He loved spending time with his sons Jon and Grant. Martin enjoyed the outdoors and learning about his Comanche heritage.

He is survived by his sons, Jon and Grant Olivarez of Marion; One Brother, Joe Olivarez and his wife Marsha of Ocala, Florida; One sister, Kathy Mosher and her husband Howard of Danville, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
