EDWARD STRUB DIES MONDAY
Funeral Rites for Iowa City Man, 72, Will Be Thursday
Edward J. Strub, 72, of 901 East Bloomington street, a native of Iowa City and a grocer here for more than 30 years, died about 4 p.m. Monday at Oakland Cemetery, where he has been employed as a helper for the past three years.
Mr. Strub was assisting in the removal of one of the tents at the end of a burial service at the cemetery, when he was apparently stricken with a heart attack.
Born September 25, 1880 in Iowa City, he was a son of Conrad and Catherine Kost Strub, and attended St. Mary's school here. He married Mary Gibbs on July 4, 1904 at Center Point. She preceded him in death on May 25, 1945.
Mr. Strub was associated with the Hummer Wholesale and Retail Grocery from 1917 until about four years ago. From 1917 to 1927 he lived at Marengo, before he returned to Iowa City.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Jonnie Shaffer of Iowa City; one son, Clarence G. Strub of Iowa City; three grandchildren, James and Mary Ann Shaffer and Donald E. Strub, all of Iowa City; one brother A.J. Strub, Long Beach, Calif.; and four sisters, Mrs. Ralph Leighton, Eugene, Ore.; Mrs. Gus Miller, Mrs. Rena Thomason and Mrs. Mary Kessler, all of Iowa City. Four children and one brother preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Wenceslaus church. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Oathout funeral chapel. The family requests that there be no flowers.
