Mary E. Shellady, age 68 of 1605 Somerset Lane, Iowa City died Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport from a sudden illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 17, 2003, at St. Marks. United Methodist Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Harlan Gillespie officiating. Burial will be at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Friday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers memorials donations can be made in her memory to the University of Iowa Art Museum c/o University of Iowa Foundation. Online condolences may be sent for Mary’s family through our website @www.gayandciha.com.

Mary Evelyn Brebner was born July 4, 1934, in Osceola, Iowa the daughter of Albert and Ilo (Moore) Brebner. She graduated from high school in Liberty Center, Iowa and later in her life received a Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Iowa. For many years, she worked for the University of Iowa within a number of the colleges and throughout the hospital. On July 5,1968, she married Robert G. “Bob” Shellady in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. For many years, Bob and Mary lived east of Iowa City where they raised Shellmere Arabians Horses. Bob died October 28,1994.

She was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Iowa City. After her retirement she volunteered as a Docent at the University of Iowa Museum of Art, having a passion for fine art and liturchure. Her love of reading was so much a part of her life, so much that she shared this with her family and friends. And to those who knew Mary, knew this was the time of the year she lived for her garden..

Her family includes three daughters, Marian Budreau and her husband, John W. Strauch of Middleton, MA, Ginette Budreau of Solon, and Tina Budreau and her husband, John Langenhan of Eldridge, IA; and four grandchildren, Jenna, Halie, Trek and Pete.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert G. Shellady; brother, Dick Brebner and sister, Erma Lee Helke.
