Mary Ellen M. Madden, age 51 of rural Tiffin died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at her home of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 17, 2003 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Tiffin with the Reverend Christina Sung officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery near Tiffin. Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm Friday at the Church. A memorial fund has been established in her memory. Mary Ellen was born May 29, 1951, in Iowa City the daughter of Christ and Jeri (Douglass) Coblentz. She married Randy Madden on September 17, 1983, in Iowa City. She has always had a special place in her heart for those with special needs. Because of this, she was involved with the Special Olympics, Systems Unlimited, Goodwill Industries, and Liberty Country Living in North Liberty. She was employed most recently at the Super Wal-Mart in Coralville and with the Iowa City Community School District.

Growing up in a large family, her family was important to her. She loved spending time with them camping, fishing, and just being with all of her family. They include her husband, Randy; children, Kris and his wife, Colleen Casper of Iowa City, John Casper of North Liberty, and Dawn Lewis of Oxford, and special nephew, Lloyd Coblentz of North Liberty; three grandchildren, Kristen, Steven, and Brooklyn; her mother; Jeri Coblentz of Tiffin; brothers and sisters, DeWayne Coblentz of Iowa City, Hellen Coblentz of Coralville, Arlene "Buzz" Coblentz of Riverside, Katie Miller of Central City, IA, Dorothy Vesely of Iowa City, Danny Coblentz of Shueyville, Rodney Thompson of Coralville, Richard Thompson of North Liberty, Shirley Coblentz of Indiana, Everett Coblentz of Iowa City, and David Thompson of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, three brothers, a sister, and her grandparents.
