Dr. Rita Elizabeth Krause, 42, of 4811 Southchase Court died Wednesday, April 9, 2003 in Cedar County from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, April 14, 2003 at 10am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Rev. James Vrba officiating. A reception for family and friends will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 4779 American Legion Road, Iowa City following the services. Graveside committal services will be held Monday at 1pm at Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday from 1-6pm at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, where a Parish Vigil Service will be recited at 4pm and a rosary will be recited at 5:30pm. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Rita was born May 10, 1960 in Viroqua, Wisconsin, the daughter of John and Anna Mae Klema Krause. She was united in marriage to Tim Schwager on August 4, 1990, at St. Wenceslaus Church in Iowa City.

Rita was a graduate of Viroqua High School and a 1982 graduate of the University of Wisconsin in bacteriology. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin College of Medicine in 1986 and served her residency in pediatrics at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Since 1989, she has been a physician with the University of Iowa Student Health Services. She was a board-certified pediatrician.

Rita was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She was active in church activities, the Girl Scouts, and enjoyed walking in walks for the March of Dimes, the Ronald McDonald House and Iowa City Hospice.

Too many Rita was considered a “super-mom” who was creative, like Martha Stewart, when it came to decoration, design and passionately working with her hands. Rita loved the holidays and all the festivities as well as parties with friends and family. She enjoyed off color jokes, Hawkeye sports, especially women’s basketball and Iowa football. Rita loved to travel, scuba dive and enjoyed the beauty of nature and the outdoors.

She always valued the closeness of her relationship with family and friends.

Rita is survived by her husband, Tim Schwager and her children Eric and Laura, both at home; her mother, Anna Mae Krause of Viroqua, Wisconsin;
Rita’s siblings, James (Judy) Krause and Roger (Phyllis) Krause of Viroqua, Wisconsin, Teresa (Frank) Fialkowski of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, LouAnn (Kenneth)VanDoren of Mauston, Wisconsin, and Sharon Krause of Minocqua, Wisconsin; Her mother in law, Rosemary Schwager of Bellevue, Iowa; Rita’s in laws, Barb (Gary) Miller and Joe (Rosie) Schwager Rosie of Maquoketa, Iowa, Steve (Julie) Schwager of Prairie du Chien, Ruth (Jim) Lewis of Dubuque, Tom (Cindy) Schwager of Cascade, Paul Schwager, Lorin (Debbie) Schwager, Chuck (Kathy) Schwager, Mick (Tricia) Schwager, all of Bellevue, Iowa, Susie (Jonathan) Poulton of Iowa City, Marty (Jolea) Schwager of Clive and many nieces and nephews
Rita was preceded in death by her father, John, brother, Alan, niece, Lynn, and her father-in-law, Vincent.
