Margaret N. Kracht, 87, formerly of 629 Whiting Avenue, Iowa City, died Friday evening, April 4, 2003 at the Lone Tree Health Care Center following a lengthy illness.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2003, at the Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City, with the Reverend Paul Akin, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City. Friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Iowa City or Parkinson’s Research.

Margaret Naylor Kracht was born November 15, 1915, in Tecumseh, Kansas, the daughter of James Rollin and Ella (Fleming) Naylor. She graduated from Manhattan High School in Manhattan, Kansas. She was united in marriage to Dr. Arthur Kracht on February 26, 1949 in Manhattan. The couple was stationed at various military bases across the United States and Okinawa. They moved to Iowa City in 1961 and she had worked as a secretary for the First United Methodist Church and the University of Iowa retiring in 1968. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, PEO Chapter JF and Athens History Circle, she had also been a volunteer for the Mercy Hospital Guild and was on the Colonial Lassies Bowling League. She had lived for a number of years at Bickford Cottage in Iowa City until moving to the Lone Tree Health Care Center in March of this year.

Margaret especially enjoyed her family, spending time with her grandchildren and attending their activities. She also enjoyed traveling abroad and working crossword puzzles.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Susan Kracht Dane and her husband, Robert of Iowa City, son, David Kracht and his wife, Susan of Clinton, Iowa, four grandchildren; Emily, Katy, Nikki and Max.

She was preceded in death by her husband and three brothers, James, John and Wilson.
