Cecil L. Miller, age 78 of 323 Brown Street, Iowa City died Thursday, April 10, 2003 at his home of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 14, 2003 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Bruce Fischer of the Congregational Church of Christ officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Iowa City Hospice in Cecil’s memory.

Cecil Lester Miller was born May 25, 1924, in rural Johnson County, Iowa the son of Melvin F. and Mary (Yoder) Miller. During World War II, he served his country in the United States Army. On October 1, 1949, Cecil married Dessel P. Yoder in Davenport, Iowa. Cecil started employment with Blackman Decorators in 1947, the next year he became an owner, which he was until his retirement in 1989.

He was a member of Congregational United Church of Christ in Iowa City, American Legion, and a charter and lifetime member of the Elks Club. Cecil loved to golf, fish, watch any of the Iowa Hawkeye sporting events, and most of all being with his grandchildren, and family.

His family includes his wife, Dessel; two sons and their wives, Keith L. Miller and Debra Scott-Miller of Iowa City, and Carlan D. and Rebecca Miller of Iowa City; grandchildren, Greg and Ellyn Miller; and a brother and his wife, Orval and Rovona Miller of Wellman.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Helen Yoder.
