Jean C. Rim, age 68 of 604 Granada Court, Iowa City died Sunday, April 6, 2003 at a hospital in Seoul, South Korea following an illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2003 at the First Presbyterian Church in Iowa City, with burial at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. The Reverend Beverly Hoven Kemp will officiate. There will be a time of visitation from 9:30 a.m. until services on Saturday at the church. Jean Chinock Kim Rim was born April 12, 1934 in Seoul, Korea, the daughter of Sungjae and Youngbok Kim. She received her B.S. Degree in 1957 from the Seoul National University School of Pharmacy, attended Columbia University 1960 through1962; the University of Iowa receiving her M.S. degree in Nutrition in 1968, and her PhD in Nutrition from Texas Women’s University in 1993. On September 1, 1962, she was united in marriage to Kwan Rim, a professor of Engineering at the University of Iowa.

She has been Director of Clinical Nutrition and Research from 1996 until last year for the Center for Health Promotion at the Samsung Medical Center, Seoul, South Korea. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Iowa City, Youngnak Presbyterian Church in Seoul, South Korea, Zonta International (District 26) in Seoul, South Korea, and the Women’s Temperance League.

Jean was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, as well as a tireless researcher and author in the areas of child and adult obesity, and the relationship between diet and cancer. She patented a computerized dietary analysis system and in her spare time gave nutritional advice on a Korean Website called” Ask Dr. Kim”.

Her family includes her husband, Kwan Rim of Iowa City, sons and their wives, Albert Rim and Innkyung of New York and Seoul, and Christopher Rim and Christina Lee of Washington; daughter and her husband, Joanne Rim and Patrick Kim of New Jersey; granddaughter, Samantha Soyeon Rim, daughter of Albert and Innkyung; brother, Hyo Sup Kim of Arizona, and sisters, Jungock Kim of California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sungjae and Youngbok Kim and older sister, Kae-ock Kim.
