"Death Takes Iowa Citian: William P. Knowling Dies; Funeral Rites To Be Held Friday"

William P. Knowling, 82, of 410 Maiden lane, died at 11:30 p. m. Wednesday at a local nursing home. Death follows an extended illness.

Born near Morristown, Tenn., February 2, 1871, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jackson Knowling. Mr. Knowling was reared in that community and later became a Baptist minister, serving churches in Tennessee.

He was married to the former Martha Turner at Morristown in March, 1895.

Mr. Knowling retired and came to Iowa City in 1930.

Survivors include three sons, Jack Knowling, Kite Knowling, both of Iowa City, and Bruce Knowling, of Vancouver, Wash. 13 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

His wife and two sons preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be at 3 p. m. Friday at the Oathout funeral chapel with the Rev. John G. Craig, pastor of the Congregational church officiating. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery.
