Joan Johnson, 71, of 918 20th Ave. Coralville, died, Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at her home after a short illness.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday 10:00 a.m. at Lensing’s Oak Hill-Coralville. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. with a parish wake service held at 5:30 p.m. at Lensing’s Oak Hill in Coralville. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. Memorials may be made to the Joan Johnson Memorial Fund.

Joan was born April 16, 1931, the daughter of Robert Weldon and Blanche Helen (Doll) Hess she was born in Iowa City, Iowa. On August 12, 1949, she was united in marriage to Stanley Robert Johnson they were married at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She was a busy homemaker who raised seven children. She also worked at the University of Iowa and at Lantern Park Care Center. In earlier days she sang in the church choir. She enjoyed playing cards, antiquing and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. One of her favorite past times was family outings.

She is survived by her husband, Stan “Sparky” Johnson of Coralville; seven children: Dave Johnson and his wife Ann of Port Angeles, Washington, Steve Johnson of Jay, Oklahoma, Mark Johnson of Iowa City, Iowa, Jill Carroll of Coralville, Iowa, Greg Johnson and his wife Carol of Marion, Iowa, Ron Johnson of Overland Park, Kansas, Mike Johnson and his wife Kris of Evansdale, Iowa; two brothers, Robert Hess and his wife Jackie of Iowa City, Iowa, and Clement John “C.J.” Hess and his wife Marilyn of New Orleans. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren.

Her parents, three sisters, Delores West, Christina Helen Bisbee, and Patricia Perin, all preceded her in death.
