Hilda Kessler, 95

Hilda F. Kessler, 95, formerly of 716 E. Fairchild St., died Wednesday, Oct . 17, 2001, at the Iowa City Rehabilitation & Health Care Center after a long illness.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Phillips officiating. Burial will be in the West Branch Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service. A memorial fund has been established.

Mrs. Kessler was born Feb. 6, 1906, in Solon, to Edwin and Margaret (Kessler) Bartlett. She was educated in the Solon area and later attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught school for two years. She married Francis M. "Jupe" Kessler on Dec . 28, 1927, in Solon. They made their home in West Branch until she moved to Iowa City in 1973 after her husband's death.

She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Rachel and Richard Walton of Voorhees, N.J. and Pauline and Howard Shapcott of Iowa City; one daughter-in-law , Lucille Kessler of Dubuque; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, three brothers, three sisters and her son, Ralph, died earlier.
