IOWA CITY

Virginia Crain Brawner, 70, of 2801 Hwy 6 East, Iowa City, died Wednesday morning, March 19, 2003, at Mercy Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2003, at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City, with the Reverend Dwight DuBois officiating. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Lung Association. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.lensingfuneral.com

Virginia L. Brawner was born May 28, 1932, in rural Johnson County, Iowa, the daughter of Fred B. and Florence L. (Buntz) Crain. She was raised and educated in Iowa City, graduating from University High School in 1950 and attended the University of Iowa. She was united in marriage to Harold E. Brawner on June 6, 1953, in Iowa City. The couple made their home here where she worked at Athens Press and later was a Lino Type Operator for the Press Citizen for twenty-four years, retiring in 1974.

She loved to travel and especially enjoyed her family and friends.

Virginia is survived by her husband, Harold of Iowa City, one brother, Robert W. Crain and his Wife, Patricia of Tucson, Arizona, two sisters; Jane Strub, Louise Aicher and her husband, Harry all of Iowa City, also 11 nieces, nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Gordon and David.
