David W. Day, 77, a resident of Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab, formerly of 1905 Brown Deer Road died Thursday, March 20, 2003 after a brief illness.

Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00pm at Lensing’s Oakhill, 210 Holiday Road, Coralville, with funeral services to follow on Sunday at 4:00pm at Lensing’s Oakhill. Burial will be Monday at Walcott Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by the Walcott American Legion. Memorials may be made to the University of Iowa College of Business or the University of Iowa Hospital’s Vascular Surgery Department.

David was born January 1, 1926 the son of Wilbur and Isabelle (Kilgore) Day in Brighton, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm. He attended country schools and attended and graduated in 1943 from Brighton High School. He attended Iowa State and the University of Minnesota while in the Navy V12 program. David and his three older brothers served in the United States Navy during World War II. He later attended the University of Iowa where he earned his Masters and Ph.D. in Business Administration. He was one of the few to earn varsity letters in athletics from both the University of Minnesota and the University of Iowa. During which time he met and married his wife Shirley Ann Sindt. The couple was married in Davenport, Iowa and has been married for fifty-five years.

David was a business executive and also a professor for the University of Iowa College of Business. He was an avid supporter of all Hawkeye sports, as well as a supporter of the College of Business. He was a member and past president of the Hawkeye Letterman’s Club. He was a member of the Walcott American Legion. David was a loyal supporter of the University of Iowa including the College of Business, athletics and medicine.

Survivors include his wife Shirley of Coralville, Iowa; four sons: David Day and his wife Lynne of Vermillion, South Dakota, Daniel Day and his wife Deborah of Edina, Minnesota, Doug Day and his wife Debra of Austin, Texas and Dennis Day and his wife Sandra of Phoenix, Arizona; his AFS son, Tawab Hessam and his wife Harriet who David and Shirley considered one of their children; four brothers, William Day of Brighton, Iowa, Robert Day and his wife Cornelia of Washington, Iowa, Richard Day and his wife Ginny of San Antonio, Texas, Burt Day of Norway, Iowa; one sister, Belle Holland of Des Moines, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; Daniel, Elizabeth, Sarah, David, William, John, Jennifer, Catherine, Kaela, Livingston, and Mahaley.
