Arlene P. Smith, 71, a longtime resident of Iowa City Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, died there on Wednesday, March 19, 2003 following a long and courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Arlene chose to be cremated. A gathering of friends and family to honor the memory of Arlene will be held the first weekend of May at the home of Daniel & Harriet Johnson-O’Mara. Instead of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be directed to Mutiple Sclerosis research. Arrangements by Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City.

Arlene was born June 23, 1931, in St. Paul, Minnesota, the daughter of Earl & Leona Neice Wildman, Sr.. Arlene married Wayne Grove in 1949 and together the couple had twin boys, Daniel & David. She worked as a waitress at Whetstone’s Drug Store and for Wolf’s Women’s Clothing Store, both in Iowa City.

Arlene is survived by her sons, Daniel Grove Johnson-O’Mara & his wife Harriet of Iowa City and David Grove O’Mara of Lanesboro, Minnesota; a sister Joan Butler of Iowa City; a brother John Wildman & his wife Joyce of Channel View, Texas; a sister in law, Doris Wildman of Iowa City; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and eight nieces and nephews.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Earl “Jay” Wildman, Jr.
