Mary Kessler Succumbs at 72

Mrs. Lewis (Mary) C. Kessler, 72, of 831 South Dubuque Street, died Wednesday evening at Mercy Hospital after a short illness.

Funeral mass will be Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. The rosary will be recited Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Jones Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Kessler was born in Iowa City Aug. 8, 1893 the daughter of Conrad and Catherine Kost Strub.

She was married to Lewis Kessler at Kahoka, Mo., and they operated a grocery store in Iowa City until 1949.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Church.

Survivors include a son, Buford; one daughter, Catherine; two sisters, Mrs. Rena Thomason and Mrs. G.L. Miller, all of Iowa City; and one sister, Mrs. Ralph Leighton of Eugene, Ore.

She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers and one sister.
