OXFORD -- Edward Louis Cooney, 62, died this morning at his home in Oxford following a sudden illness.

Funeral mass will be 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Church in Oxford, with burial in Mt. Calvary cemetery, Oxford.

Visitation will begin at the George L. Gay Oxford Chapel Wednesday morning. The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Military services will be held at the gravesite.

He was born Aug. 25, 1912, in Iowa County, the son of James and Mary Reynolds Cooney. He served in World War II and was a member of St. Mary's Church. He was an auto mechanic.

Survivors include a son, William, of Iowa City; a daughter, Mrs. Mike (Linda) Milder, of Iowa City; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Helena O'Conner, of Riverside, and Mrs. Theresa Swails, of Iowa City.
