Harry E. Tyson age 77 of Iowa City died following a courageous battle with heart disease at his home on Thursday, March 27, 2003 surrounded by family members. Funeral services will be at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2003 at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Coralville. Burial with military rites provided by the Coralville American Legion with assistance from other local organizations will be in Oakland Cemetery, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent to his family at www.gayandchia.com.

Harry Elmer Tyson was born on November 14, 1925 in Portland, Oregon the son of Harry E and Edith Heinzel Tyson. He served his country in the United States Marine Corp during World War II. Harry enlisted on January 19, 1943 in San Francisco, California, and saw duty in the Pacific Area from August 12, 1943 until October 15, of 1944. His battles and engagements included the Marshall Island Operation. He received an honorable discharge on November, 20, 1949 in San Diego, California. On June 7, 1958 he married Jeanne Baker in Reno, Nevada. They lived in San Diego, California before moving to Iowa City in 1997. He was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Coralville and the American Legion in New York. His family will remember his love for his God, family and country.

His family includes his wife Jeanne, a son Harry Michael and wife Le Ann Tyson of Iowa City, two daughters: Princess Masters and Greg Jones of Arizona, Cindy and husband Steve Pelon of New York, a son Larry E. Tyson of Arizona, along with eleven grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

His parents and a son in-law Ed Masters preceded him in death. The Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service are caring for Harry’s family and his service,
