Lindsley, Ellen Ford
Ellen Ford Lindsley passed away peacefully at her home in Santa Monica on November 26, 2002. She was born on December 10, 1909 to Arthur Hillyer and Sadie Hess Ford in Iowa City, Iowa. Her mother, father and brothers, Robert and Edwin Ford, predeceased her and she is survived by her husband of 69 years, Donald Benjamin Lindsley, her sons David Ford (and wife Elizabeth) and Robert Kent and her daughters Margaret and Sara Ellen. Ellen had six grandchildren: Eric, Karen, Victoria, Ellen Tracy, John and David and seven great grandchildren.
Ellen graduated from the University of Iowa with a BA in English, enjoyed dramatics, and performed in many college plays. Upon graduation, she taught high school English in Iowa and in 1933 married Donald Lindsley in her family home in Iowa City. Don and Ellen moved to Santa Monica in 1951 to pursue Don’s teaching and research career at UCLA. Ellen was active in the Parent/Teachers Association and the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and entertained foreign, university-related guests in their home. She was a wonderful wife and mother and will be remembered for her gentle, soft-spoken and kind spirit. The family wishes to thank mother’s caregivers: Connie, Lis, Louisa, Nellie, Corrina, and Georgina, who lovingly assisted in taking care of her.
