Lillian E. Svendsen age 89 formerly of 1799 5th St. Coralville died on Sunday, March 23, 2003 following an extended illness at Lantern Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Coralville. A private family memorial service will be held later this week. Memorial donations may be given in Lillian’s name to the Lantern Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 913 22nd Ave. Coralville, Iowa 52241. Lillian Evelyn Svendsen was born on December 8, 1913 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Christ and Carolina Clauson Brink. She attended Riverside Brookfield High School in Chicago. Lillian married Robert Svendsen on October 14, 1932 in Chicago. She was employed as an accountant and bookkeeper for Kitchens of Sara Lee, then Prudential Life Insurance Company both in Chicago. They moved to Iowa City in 1972 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. While in Iowa City she was a self employed seamstress at Top Drawer Women’s Clothing Shop. Her hobbies included playing the organ, cooking, baking and making care bears for her grandchildren.
Her family includes a son, Robert Svendsen of Iowa City, grandchildren Karin and husband, Michael Bowers of Coralville, Kim Forst of Cedar Rapids, Paul and wife, Jenny Forst of Atlanta, Georgia, son in-law William Forst of Iowa City, great grandchildren Jason, Lindsay, Alison and Christopher Bland, Anthony and James Black along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Her parents, husband, daughter Betty Forst and her brother and sisters preceded her in death. The Gay and Ciha Funeral and cremation service are caring for Lillian’s services and her family.
