John Sexton, 83

John L. Sexton, 83, of Lone Tree, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at his home in Lone Tree. Funeral services will be Monday, January 4, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at the Lone Tree American Legion Post 457. Scherie Gates will officiate the services. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery with full military rites provided by the Lone Tree American Legion Post 457. Casketbearers will be Travis Swenson, Dustin Fobian, Tyler Swenson, Mindy Scott, Bob Scott and Bob Moeller. Following the committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Lone Tree American Legion. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 3, 2010 form 1:00 P.M. -- 5:00 P.M. at the Lone Tree American Legion Post 457. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the John L. The Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services of Lone Tree is caring for the arrangements and John's family.

John was born June 27, 1926 to Harry and Agnes (Jensen) Sexton in Johnson Co. Iowa. He graduated from West Branch High School in 1944 and served our country with the Army Air Corp during World War II from 1944-1946. On June 11, 1948, John was united in marriage to Dorothy Lukavsky. Together they raised their three children in Iowa City. John and Dorothy moved to Lone Tree in 1975. He retired from Proctor and Gamble and spent many hours with Dorothy refinishing furniture for family and friends. He enjoyed woodworking, mushroom hunting, fishing, helping his son-in-law farm, bird watching, good conversation, cards, cribbage, and being with family and friends

John will be dearly missed by his wife, Dorothy "Dot", his son Larry John (Kerri) Sexton, Terri (Jon) Swenson all of Lone Tree and Linda (Kenny) Fobian of Iowa City. Grandchildren; Travis (Kim) Swenson of Northglenn CO, Jennifer (Tim) Navara of Lone Tree, Courtney (Andy)Eckrich, Dustin Fobian, Kelsi Fobian, and Tyler Swenson of Iowa City. Four great-grandchildren; Quinn, Isabelle, Keelea, and Jack. John is also survived by siblings: Lawrence (Marilyn) Sexton, Laura Slach, Paul (Myrt) Sexton, and Bob Sexton all of West Branch. Sister-in-laws: Althea Sexton of Draper, UT, Rosemary Sexton of West Branch, IA, Jean Sexton of Apache Junction, AZ, Doris (Doug) Ratliff of Molino FL., and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers; George, Maynard, Ross, and Frank "Bill".
