Paul E. Schneider, 65, of West Liberty died Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at home surrounded by family. Funeral Services will be held at 10 am, Monday, November 30, 2009 at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City with Rev. Dennis Martin officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 6pm at the funeral home, where a Vigil Service will be held at 5:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to The Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, Iowa City Hospice or the West Liberty Fire & Rescue.
Paul was born November 5, 1944 in Iowa City, the son of Paul and Alice Harbit Schneider. He attended Cosgrove schools and was a 1964 graduate of Regina High School. On June 4, 1966 Paul married Patricia Kindl at St. Wenceslaus Church in Iowa City. After residing in North Liberty for a number of years, Paul and his family moved to West Liberty in 1977. Paul was employed by Louis Rich Foods in West Liberty for 35 years, retiring as the maintenance superintendent in 2000.
During his ten wonderful years of retirement, Paul enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. He was a skilled craftsman in automotive and construction hobbies. He also loved to hunt, fish and was an avid Nascar fan.
Paul is survived by his wife, Patricia and their two children and two grandchildren, Michael (Melinda) Schneider of Livonia, MI and their son Maxwell, and Wendy (Tim) Walz of Elkader and their son Owen; four siblings, Sandra (Jim) Deatsch of Parnell, Peg (Gary) Witmer of Tipton, IA, Kevin (Jan) Schneider of Cedar Rapids and Jim (Ann) Schneider of Tipton; his mother-in-law, Anna Kindl of Iowa City and three brothers-in-law, Bill, Rich (Kathy) and Dave Kindl; and several nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, William Kindl.
