Katherine (Burian/Garrett) Reichelt, 46, of Iowa City took her last breath of life on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following a long illness. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11am on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Iowa City. A gathering for family and friends will be from 4-8pm on Friday at Lensing’s Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd. in Coralville, where a vigil service will begin at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Catholic Community Foundation.
Katherine was born on January 22, 1963 in Iowa City, the daughter Paul and Donna (Lawrence) Burian. She graduated from Iowa City Regina in 1981. In 1983, Katherine married Russ Garrett. They later divorced. On May 27, 2006, Katherine married Lee Reichelt at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City. Katherine was currently enrolled at Kaplan University in Cedar Rapids working toward becoming a licensed Medical Assistant. For the past six years, she also worked as a cashier at 1st Avenue Hy-Vee.
Although she had many interests, Katherine truly enjoyed everyday laughter, being creative, and life’s simple pleasures. She also cherished the wonderful times she spent with her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful woman who will be truly missed.
Survivors include her husband Lee of Iowa City, her children: Kelly (Chris) Scherrer and Chase Garrett both of Iowa City, Amber Reichelt of Tiffin, Alyssa Reichelt of Cedar Falls, Jarrod Reichelt of Davenport and Jedd Reichelt of Iowa City; her mother Donna Burian of Iowa City, three brothers: Mark (Dawn) Burian of Cedar Rapids, Greg (Jen) Burian of Iowa City and Phil (Dena) Burian of Cedar Rapids, her two grandchildren Fenna “Pebbles” and Tesla Scherrer both of Iowa City and 13 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Paul Burian.
